Homework 1-26

I'm not going to pretend that I have answers to things, but I think being aware of the world one lives in is a good first step toward improving that world.

Having a said that, take a moment this weekend to read about Payatas, and when you are finished please take another moment to thank God, luck, karma, fate, or what/whoever you believe put you in the place that you are.

Moving is hard. Here are some words about it.

I dug my fingers in the earth.
I drew you pictures of my pain.
They were so pretty.
They were so vain.
Put your hands in the water.
Let it touch you everywhere.
Boat of my father.
Cut from my mother.
Father.
I'm lonely.
I'm an only.
I learned to put on airs.
I needed them to breathe.
Today I wake up, tell myself this is me.
Mother.
Father.
I'm lonely.
I'm an only.
Now this is home.
But the property's on loan.
So much for letting go.
I'm picking up the phone.
Bivouac.

The decider decides...

In 1965 LBJ announced a "troop surge" to hasten US victory in Vietnam. In the five years leading up to Johnson's announcement fewer than three thousand US armed forces men and women had been killed in combat, peace keeping, and training missions while serving in Vietnam. Over the next 10 years 57,000 soldiers lost their lives.

In the first 45 months of the current America/Iraq conflict more US service men and women have died than in the first five years of the Vietnam war.

A "troop surge" is imminent. I fear the worst. Iraq is a mess. I want the troops to come home.

The dems may not appropriate money. Troops will not have appropriate equipment. Iraq is a mess, and I don't know why we are there.

I can't figure it out...

Well, no wonder. No wonder we can’t figure it out. Because the leadership of this nation is telling us one thing on TV and doing something entirely different. They tell us -- They tell us that they're fighting a war against terrorists. And then we find out that the White House is selling arms to the Ayatollah. They -- They tell us that they’re fighting a war on drugs and then people come on TV and testify that the CIA and the DEA and the FBI knew they were flying drugs into America all along. And they’re negotiating with a dictator who is shoveling cocaine into this country like crazy. I guess that’s their Central American strategy.

- Ann Richards - 1988

I'm naive.

Bring on the hegemony. Manifest destiny!!!

Things I have learned in the last few days.

  • Consulting is a scam...consultants are scam artists...if I were smart I would be a consultant.
  • It is not smart to get very drunk with someone you just met especially if you are trying to make a good first impression.
  • If your bike or parts of your bike get stolen the cops will blame you for having a bike.
  • Lock every part of your bike to every other part of your bike.
  • Girls do not apreciate self deprecating humor from people who are not john cusack or hugh grant, and if you are like me they will tell you that you hate yourself even though all you are doing is not taking yourself too seriously.
  • In the end they really want the cocksuredness of guys typically named chad, rob, or brad.
  • Doing nice things for other people sometimes make me feel worse than I felt before doing said nice thing.
  • Sometimes doing something nice makes me very happy.
  • Petty fights with people are just petty.
  • If I were a rule I would bend. *
  • If I were a better man I'd talk with you more often than I do. *

Les jeux sont fait...
see you all on the flip.

*thanx rw
